Nicolas Cage is set to play Tiger King’s Joe Exotic in a scripted series based on the successful Netflix pandemic binger reports Variety.
The publication is saying that the series will contain eight episodes and is based on the Texas Monthly article Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild, by Leif Reigstad.
Produced by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios, the show will be shopped around in the coming days.
Cage will also serve as executive producer by way of Saturn Films.
Variety says the story revolves around Exotic, Joe Schreibvogel, an eccentric Oklahoma big cat American conservationist who is constantly fighting to keep his park alive.
The series explores Joe’s rise to infamy, the creation of his moniker, and how he became profoundly influenced by the character he created.
This will be Cage’s first foray into the world of television and adds to his long list of off-beat projects.
The mega-star is currently experiencing a resurgence in his career with many roles in the horror genre, including 2018’s cult hit Mandy and last years Color Out of Space.
