After seven official sequels, a remake and countless in-name-only spin-offs, plus numerous documentaries, you’d think that all money has been completely wrung out of the Amityville Horror franchise, which began with a book about the murder of an entire family that paved the way for an alleged haunting…
But this is Hollywood we’re talking about, so you’d be foolish to think those flies have buzzed for the final time.
Set for release on January 2nd of 2015 is the latest installment in the never-ending franchise, titled Amityville: The Awakening. Originally planned as a found footage film set in the 70s, the movie has undergone many title and script changes over the years, to the point that it’s become hard to know what to expect to see once that date comes around – or if that date is even still the correct one.
Courtesy of Dread Central comes the first images of the film, thanks to a sneaky reader who apparently snapped them in the theater. From what the site reports, the trailer for Amityville: The Awakening is attached to prints of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, and though we don’t condone bringing cameras into movie theaters, we thought you’d like a little sneak peek at the footage that’s sure to hit the net real soon.
Check out the very first images below and be sure to head over to Dread Central for more, as well as a complete description of the teaser!
Co-written by Daniel Farrands and Casey La Scala and directed by Franck Khalfoun (Maniac), Amityville: The Awakening stars Jennifer Jason Leigh as Joan, a single mother who moves her three kids into the Amityville house, which of course has a very dark history.
