Master of horror Stephen King has a new crime novel headed for bookstores in 2021. Titled Later, it is the third novel the author has published via Hard Case Crime. He previously released The Colorado Kid and Joyland under the publishing house’s banner.
From the book’s official synopsis:
The son of a struggling single mother, Jamie Conklin just wants an ordinary childhood. But Jamie is no ordinary child. Born with an unnatural ability his mom urges him to keep secret, Jamie can see what no one else can see and learn what no one else can learn. But the cost of using this ability is higher than Jamie can imagine – as he discovers when an NYPD detective draws him into the pursuit of a killer who has threatened to strike from beyond the grave
“Later is a beautiful story about growing up and facing your demons — whether they’re metaphorical or (as sometimes happens when you’re in a Stephen King novel) the real thing,” Charles Ardai, the editor of Hard Case Crime said in a statement. “It’s terrifying, tender, heartbreaking and honest, and we’re so excited to bring it to readers.”
The novel will be released as a paperback initially with cover art by Paul Mann followed by a limited edition hardback with art by Gregory Manchess.
Hard Case Crime specializes in the the sort of crime novels that were wildly popular during the 1940s and 50s often re-printing some that were considered lost to time while searching out new stories from authors who want to try their hand at the form.
