Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark gets more interesting with every new reveal, and producer Guillermo del Toro brought the goods to San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend when he revealed a brand new creation made just for the film.
He’s called the Jangly Man, and from what we’ve learned, he’s a brand new creature pieced together from various pieces of artwork by the books’ original artist, Stephen Gammell.
Created using practical effects with contortionist Troy James, the Jangly Man is definitely creepy with his mismatched limbs and far too many teeth for one mouth.
The creature is also featured on the newest poster for the film due out this August which del Toro also presented at SDCC with the film’s director André Øvredal.
Here’s the film’s official synopsis according to IMDb:
It’s 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind…but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time-stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying tome.
The reveal of an original creature for the film is definitely intriguing and we can’t wait to see the film when it releases on August 9, 2019! Check out that trailer below!
