In the upcoming Ted Bundy biopic Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, Zac Efron of High School Musical plays the maniacal killer. And, judging from the photos, it’s a pretty accurate casting choice, surprising as it may seem at first.
Efron has shared some new photos from the film from his Instagram, and the actor looks nearly spot-on. Despite reservations due to the actor’s breakout hit, thus far everything about the movie looks incredibly interesting and well-made. Maybe it’s time to let the past be the past and leave HSM out of our thoughts.
In case you haven’t heard by now, the entire cast is packed with recognizable names. Alongside Efron is Jim Parsons, John Malkovich, Haley Joel Osment, and Lily Collins as Bundy’s longtime girlfriend; but possibly most surprising is the inclusion of Metallica’s James Hetfield, who will play a Highway Patrol Officer who makes Ted Bundy’s initial arrest.
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile is told from the perspective of Collins’ character Elizabeth Kloepfer, a woman who denied Bundy’s crimes for years. In the end, however, she would end up turning the serial killer in.
We’re also hoping that with the film, we’ll also be able to leave Joe Berlinger’s past behind – he was the director of Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 way back in 2000, and some wounds still have not healed. No release date has been set for the film yet.
