When you talk about event horror, its hard to not mention 2007’s found-footage spookfest, Paranormal Activity. The film introduced a new sort of horror, set to binaural tones and a new atmosphere. It managed to scare up tons of cash, and was followed up with sequels that brought in even more cash, each working on relatively small budgets. It’s no surprise that Blumhouse is bringing back Paranormal Activity for another round.
Blumhouse’s next Paranormal Activity film is due out on March 4, 2022. There is still no official word on what approach this one will take. Writer Christopher Landon says that this entry will “set a new course for the franchise,” not saying much else on if this will be a reboot, or sequel.
The first two Paranormal Activity films were ground breakers. Each coming at you from completely new and creative ways. The third did start to see a dip in overall story but there were huge memorable scares. After that, the franchise sort of fell off in approach and creativity. Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones reached a near abysmal place. It took the long atmospheric approach to the franchise and ended it with a totally out of place battle where the protagonists resulted in using firearms. Yea, it was a mess.
