From director Joe Berlinger (Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, Paradise Lost) Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel kicks off this new series which will explore infamous landmarks shrouded in mystery. And no other structure in Los Angeles has quite the chilling reputation as the Cecil.
Many people have checked into this landmark building but some have never formally checked out, instead leaving the property via the coroner. Guests have included serial killers such as Richard Ramirez and Johann “Jack” Unterweger.
Perhaps the most intriguing case was the disappearance of college student Elisa Lam. In 2013 Lam was staying at the Cecil when she vanished. Security footage shows her in an elevator seemingly avoiding an unseen force. She would later be found in the hotel’s water tower.
