It was clear from the moment Tobe Hooper’s comedic sequel was released that the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise wasn’t going to be a conventional one, and indeed it hasn’t been. Two more oddball sequels followed, along with a remake, a prequel to the remake, and then a sequel to… the original film.
And now, things are getting even more confusing.
Set for release in 2016, and directed by Inside filmmakers Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, Leatherface is being billed as a prequel to the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre, telling the origin story of a young Leatherface. The prequel will go further back into the character’s history than ever before.
In the film, a young nurse is kidnapped by a group of violent teens who escape from a mental hospital and take her on a road trip from hell. Pursued by an equally deranged lawman out for revenge, one of these teens is destined for tragedy and horrors that will destroy his mind, molding him into the monster we now call Leatherface.
While we wait for a release date, and a trailer, a new poster for Leatherface has arrived today, which we invite you to check out below.
Stephen Dorff, Vanessa Grasse, Lili Taylor, Sam Strike, James Bloor, Sam Coleman, Finn Jones, and Jessica Madsen star.
