Can you feel it in the air? We’re getting closer, closer to the October 19th theatrical return of one of the greatest franchises in the history of horror: Halloween. Along with Halloween of course comes its signature slasher icon, one Michael Audrey Myers.
It’s been nearly a decade since Michael stalked and slashed on cinema screens in 2009’s Rob Zombie effort Halloween II – a sequel to Zombie’s divisive 2007 remake – and fans are salivating with anticipation over the thought of seeing The Shape return once again.
In the meantime though, EW has released a brand new image of Michael from Halloween (2018), featuring the clearly aging killer wielding a large kitchen knife. Mr. Myers looks ready to slaughter somebody, and I pity the next to get in his way.
Despite Halloween being an extremely long-running franchise, Blumhouse’s new take on the property will ignore every sequel, spinoff, and remake, and instead serve as a direct follow-up to only John Carpenter’s original 1978 classic.
That means Michael and his nemesis Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) are no longer brother and sister, fundamentally changing fans’ longtime understanding of their character dynamic. It remains to be seen whether or not that will be a good move.
