Looks like Warner Bros might be conjuring another entry, besides their upcoming film, into their ever-expanding Conjuring universe. The untitled film is slated to hit theaters summer 2019 but what can we expect from this new chapter?
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of the unnamed film. Warner Bros has marked July 3, 2019 as the official release date of this new entry. While nothing else was spilled about the film, the possibilities are either two: A new Conjuring film as in, ‘The Conjuring 3’ or ‘The Crooked Man’ spinoff.
The lengthy, creep-tastic, English nursery rhyme, Crooked Man was first introduced in ‘The Conjuring 2.’ With ‘The Nun’ already getting her own spinoff this September, it would seem more likely that this walking nightmare will occupy that July 3 date. Both have been crowd favorites.
James Wan is confirmed to return as a co-producer for ‘The Crooked Man,’ alongside Peter Safran, according to The Hollywood Reporter. New Line Cinema is supposedly already working on the story with Mike Van penned to write the screenplay. This new storyline will be based off a story by Wan.
Now for the second possibility, ‘The Conjuring 3.’ This time around will be a tad different. Instead of Wan’s usual directing role, he will be returning as a producer through his production company with Safran according to Deadline. Safran will also return to his producing seat as well as David Leslie Johnson as a screenwriter.
While they are keeping tight-lipped about ‘The Conjuring 3,’ the seventh film in the conjuring universe is said to follow another real-life case of the Warrens. Nonetheless, we are excited to see which film will be teased at the end credits of ‘The Nun.’
According to Comingsoon the film centers around “a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania who takes her own life. A priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret.
Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorized audiences in ‘The Conjuring 2,’ as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.”
The timeline will be set in 1952, making it occur three years prior to the happenings in “Annabelle: Creation.”
Wan is directing this latest spinoff with Corin Hardy as director and Safran producing. Taisa Farmiga, Vera Farmiga’s sister, will make her debut in the conjuring universe as the starring nun (not the killer one….or so we think).
What movie would you like to see come out first? Are you excited for the latest conjuring film?
