The long-tormented Sidney Prescott is coming back to the Scream franchise for another round. She will join fellow classic Scream alum, David Arquette and Courtney Cox.

Campbell coming back was never a for sure thing, but it was something that fans expected and hoped for. Campbell has been on record for a while saying that without Wes Craven she didn’t feel like she would be capable of having anything to do with Scream.

“After spending time speaking with Radio Silence [the production group], they have shown such love, respect and admiration for Wes Craven and all that he’s created in the ‘Scream’ franchise. I am beyond excited to step back into the role of Sidney Prescott and return to Woodsboro.”

So, that’s some really good news. No word on how large a or small a part she will play in the new film directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Ready or Not). But, it at least seems that the film intends to continue Campbell’s story, or at the very least close it out.

Campbell joins Scream new comers Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. Scream currently has a January 14, 2022 theatrical release date.
