Uprising, a new vampire action thriller set to premiere on Netflix, has found its director in Travis Knight (Bumblebee).
The film is based on the novel A People’s History of the Vampire Uprising, written by Raymond Villareal. According to Deadline, “The film is set after a global viral outbreak turns people into vampires and follows CIA agent Lauren Webb, who works against the clock to uncover the truth behind a growing uprising that threatens to wipe out humanity.”
The book was released in 2018 by Mulholland Books and was written in the style of a oral history that told the events of the uprising from several perspectives. It is currently Villareal’s only novel.
Knight comes to the project with an impressive and varied career that includes action-driven films like Bumblebee as well as animated films like Kubo and the Two Strings, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, and Coraline.
The latest version of the film’s script was drafted by Jeremy Slater whose credits include The Exorcist TV series, The Umbrella Academy, and the highly-anticipated new Marvel series Moon Knight.
Uprising is produced under the 21 Laps banner by Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen as part of their overall deal with Netflix.
