Netflix’s genre-blending thriller The OA will not be returning for a third season according to Variety.
The series starred Brit Marling, who also co-created the show with Zal Batmanglij, as Prairie Johnson, a blind woman whose mysterious disappearance was over-shadowed by her reappearance after seven years with her sight restored.
Johnson, upon her return, begins to refer to herself as the OA (Original Angel), and recruits a small group of people to help her open a portal so that she can retrieve missing people lost to other dimensions.
The series boasted an abundance of talent in front of and behind the camera with co-stars like Jason Isaacs (the Harry Potter franchise) and Alice Krige (Sleepwalkers) filling pivotal roles and Brad Pitt as executive producer.
The show developed a cult following with audiences after its first season was released which ended on a massive cliffhanger and they waited, mostly patiently, for the follow-up season which came almost three full years later in March of this year.
Variety quoted Cindy Holland, vice-president of original content at Netflix, as saying they were “incredibly proud” of the series and that they looked forward to working with Marling and Batmanglij in the future.
