While the genre of “horror” video game didn’t really exist back in the 80s, one of the coolest horror-adjacent gaming franchises of all time is Castlevania, published by Konami. The first game was released on the NES way back in 1986, and a ton of sequels have followed.
Incorporating, vampires, haunted castles, general gothic imagery, lots of blood, and all kinds of other cool ingredients, the Castlevania games are likely to hold a special place in the hearts of horror fans who also enjoy firing up a console and kicking some digital vampire ass.
Last summer, Netflix adapted the property for TV, in the form of an original animated series. While the series – based on 1989’s Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse – was widely praised, it only ran a measly four episodes for season 1.
Now, Netflix has released the trailer for Castlevania’s upcoming second season, and it promises lots more bloodsucking, whip-cracking adventures. The trailer can be seen below, and was first unveiled online by Adi Shankar’s Bootleg Universe channel.
Thankfully, Castlevania season 2 will consist of eight episodes, which still isn’t a ton, but is at least double what fans received last time. The season debuts on Netflix on October 26th, just in time for Halloween fun. A third season has also reportedly been ordered already.
