Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile, the new biopic about serial killer Ted Bundy starring Zac Efron will finally be released in select theaters and on Netflix on May 3, 2019 according to Deadline.
Written by Michael Werwie and directed by Joe Berlinger, the film takes a deep dive into the life of Bundy as seen through the eyes of his longtime girlfriend Elizabeth who refused, for years, to believe that Bundy had actually committed the crimes of which he was accused.
Lily Collins, whose previous work includes Snow White opposite Julia Roberts, will take on the role of Elizabeth opposite Efron as the charismatic, charming killer. Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense) also appears in the film as Elizabeth’s co-worker while Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) will take on the role of Florida prosecutor Larry Simpson.
Netflix purchased the film rights to Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile in one of the legendary Sundance Film Festival bidding wars for a reported $9 million, and the film has subsequently faced criticism that Efron’s portrayal of Bundy was too sympathetic.
I suppose we’ll all have the chance to make up our minds for ourselves in May!
