Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy, based on the Dark Horse comics written by Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance and illustrated by Gabriel Ba, has been renewed for a second season.
Deadline reports that the Ellen Page, Justin H. Min, Robert Sheehan, David Castaneda, Emily Raver-Lampman, Tom Hopper and Aidan Gallagher will return for the new season, and Steve Blackman will return as showrunner.
The first season introduced viewers to the story of a group of children born on the same day to mothers who had not been pregnant when the day began. Dr. Reginald Hargreeves adopted seven of these children, and upon realizing they were gifted with extraordinary powers, turned them into a team of superheroes.
As they grew up, so did their dysfunction, and as adults they are only brought back together after their “father” dies. Little do they know that their greatest challenge is still ahead of them.
The first season has been seen by millions of Netflix subscribers globally and fans of the comics and the series have anxiously been waiting for news that it had been renewed.
Filming is set to begin this summer for season two of The Umbrella Academy. No release date has been given at this time.
