The Unsound

Streaming giant Netflix has won a round of competitive bidding for the feature rights to Cullen Bunn and Jack T. Cole’s graphic novel The Unsound, produced by Boom! Studios.

Bunn has written for numerous comics series including Uncanny X-Men and various Deadpool series in addition to his original work. This was Cole’s first turn as an illustrator for graphic novels.

Skylar James will write the script based on the book as well as serve as an executive producer on the project and David F. Sandberg (Lights Out) will direct. Sandberg will also serve as a producer with his business partner Lotta Losten under the banner of their new production company, Mangata.

The Unsound takes place in the fictional Saint Cascia Psychiatric Hospital where, according to the official Boom! Studios site, a young nurse named Ashli finds herself inside a hellish nightmare after a riot sends her fleeing into the bowels of the asylum. There Ashli finds herself in a landscape “populated by lunatics and monsters, cloaked in a secret history of black magic and heinous scientific experiments.”

This is the first production from Boom! Studios since the Disney/Fox merger and is a significant win for the company.

There is no word yet on when the film will go into production, especially with the film so early in the development stage. iHorror will be watching closely as The Unsound develops and will keep our readers informed as details become available.
