Netflix has announced a six-part limited series prequel for The Witcher.

Titled The Witcher: Blood Origin, the series will take place 1200 years before the current series and will chart the sequence of events that led to the “conjunction of spheres” when the Elven, human, and monster worlds first merged. The series will also deal with the arrival of the very first Witcher.

According to Deadline, though casting has not been announced for the series, it is slated to film in the UK.

Andrzej Sapkowski, the fantasy author who created the world the series is based upon, will serve as a creative consultant on the limited series. Declan De Barra and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will serve as executive producers.

“As a lifelong fan of fantasy, I am beyond excited to tell the story The Witcher: Blood Origin,” de Barra said in a statement. “A question has been burning in my mind ever since I first read The Witcher books – What was the Elven world really like before the cataclysmic arrival of the humans? I’ve always been fascinated by the rise and fall of civilizations, how science, discovery, and culture flourish right before that fall. How vast swathes of knowledge are lost forever in such a short time, often compounded by colonization and a rewriting of history. Leaving only fragments of a civilization’s true story behind.”

This is the second project announced as a spin-off of The Witcher on Netflix which took in approximately 76 million views upon its release. The first was an animated film which would focus on the origin of Geralt of Rivia’s Witcher mentor Vesemir. That project is titled The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolf and is still listed in pre-production on IMDb at this time.
