We’re now halfway through the debut season of MTV’s Scream, which means you’ve probably decided by now if you’re a fan or not. It’s a show that’s undoubtedly made for the teens of today, and though I’m 29 years old, I’ve found it to be a mildly entertaining weekly watch – if nothing more.
Unsurprisingly, today’s teens are eating up their very own version of Wes Craven’s self-referential horror classic, and Deadline reports today that MTV has officially renewed the series for a second season. The ten episode first season, meanwhile, wraps up on September 1st.
The premiere episode of Scream, which aired at the tail end of last month, drew in 1.563 million viewers, and the 12-34 year old audience has continued to grow from there. Additionally, the series from Dimension Television has generated 7.9 million streams across digital platforms.
“It has been a wonderful experience working with Bob Weinstein and his team who are such connoisseurs of this genre and we are thrilled by how our viewers have responded to the reinvention of Scream,” said MTV’s EVP of Series Development and Head of Scripted Programming Mina Lefevre.
“We promise even more scares, surprises, romance and of course kills in season two,” added Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Co. and Dimension Films.
