Few characters on The Walking Dead have been more memorable than Merle Dixon, played by the always badass Michael Rooker. A self-confessed asshole who redeemed himself in the end, Merle was turned by The Governor in Season 3, and it was his brother Daryl who was then forced to put him down.
While we’ll no longer be seeing Rooker on The Walking Dead, he has essentially reprised the role of Merle Dixon for a brand spankin’ new web series titled The Driving Dead, which is in the same vein as the hit AMC series. Two episodes have thus far been released, and it’s a real treat for Walking Dead fans.
The interesting thing about The Driving Dead is that it doubles as a public service announcement for the Illinois Department of Transportation, whipped up by them to promote safe driving. The series uses the zombie apocalypse as a metaphor for driving, as being smart, keeping on your toes and making the right decisions are necessities for survival both on the road and in the apocalypse.
You can check out the first two episodes below, and head over to the official Driving Dead website to learn more and keep tabs on future episodes.
Enjoy. And be safe out there, on the road of life.
