It has been 40 years since Ridley Scott’s Alien first terrified and enthralled audiences, and a new documentary titled Memory: The Origins of Alien from documentarian Alexandre O. Philippe (78/52 Hitchcock’s Shower Scene) will offer fans a peek behind the curtain into the origins of the classic film.

The film’s official description on IMDb says: The untold origin story behind Ridley Scott’s Alien–rooted in Greek and Egyptian mythologies, underground comics, the art of Francis Bacon, and the dark visions of Dan O’Bannon and H.R. Giger. A contemplation on the symbiotic collaborative process of movie-making, the power of myth, and our collective unconscious.

The documentary will feature interviews, clips, and archival footage with Alien stars Tom Skerritt and Veronica Cartwright as well as filmmaker Roger Corman (Pit and the Pendulum), actor and TCM program Ben Mankiewicz, and producer Diane O’Bannon to name a few.

Alien was a film that changed the landscape of sci-fi/horror, elevating expectations and launching the career of Sigourney Weaver (Cabin in the Woods), for which we should all be eternally grateful. It will be interesting to see what Philippe and his crew have to show us in this new documentary.

Memory: The Origins of Alien is expected to begin releasing in theaters on October 4, 2019. Check out the trailer for the film below!
