In the world of toys, very few names are as iconic and well-known by collectors as Todd McFarlane, who created Spawn and in 1994 founded McFarlane Toys, which put horror icons on our toy shelves long before companies like NECA and Mezco came along.
Now, in an announcement made today, McFarlane has revealed an upcoming project that will once again revolutionize the toy game, and completely re-invent the building block approach of the action figure world.
After years of releasing toys based on both the Walking Dead comic books and TV series, McFarlane brings the hugely popular brand to the next level with the Walking Dead brick building line, which will literally allow you to build and create the worlds and iconic images from AMC’s television series – one brick at a time.
Featuring realistic sculpts, light-up and shaped features, iconic environments and dozens of your fan-favorite characters and walkers, the line reinvents LEGOs for more adult collectors, giving us the chance to essentially make our own Walking Dead toys and display dioramas.
“Twenty years ago I walked into the action figure aisle, saw an artistic void, and asked, can these toys look cooler? The answer was yes, they could, and I’ve survived twenty years next to the big boys creating those artistic toys,” said McFarlane, in the press release sent out today. “Now I’m walking into another aisle with that same question, and the answer is still yes!”
“Will these be the best building sets out there? I’ll leave it up to the consumer to decide,” he continued. But, will it look cooler? Yes. Will it be more detailed? Absolutely. Will it be more realistic? I guarantee it!”
The Walking Dead series one product line will feature building sets and expansion packs for consumers to build their own apocalypse, including Daryl Dixon with chopper, The Governor’s room, and the prison tower with gate. Additional blind bag figures include Daryl Dixon, Michonne, The Governor, Carl Grimes, Riot Gear Walker, Michonne’s Pet Walker, and Herd Walkers.
The Walking Dead building sets and figures will be available this fall only at Toys “R” Us stores nationwide and online at ToysRUs.com.
