How long have we been writing about Marvel’s horror/comic book hybrid film The New Mutants?
I honestly don’t remember, but the film has suffered one set back after another on the road to its big screen release, and there were even rumors of a direct to Hulu release only a couple of months ago.
It seems like every few months we’ve heard about re-writes, re-shoots, issues with the final cut, and most recently, it was caught up in the Disney-Fox merger.
Entertainment Weekly reported today that, as the dust continues to settle from the merger, Disney has announced that the film will finally release April 3, 2020.
The publication also mentioned that Gambit, which was slated to star Channing Tatum in the title role, and three other untitled Fox Marvel projects have been scrapped entirely. This may be Disney making room to move those characters into their own Marvel Universe, and fans will, once again, have to be patient to see just what that might entail.
The New Mutants boasts an all-star cast including Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), Anya Taylor-Joy (Split), Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), Antonio Banderas (Interview with the Vampire), and Alice Braga (I Am Legend).
The film tells the story of five young mutants coming into their powers who are held, against their will, in a secret facility.
Hopefully, this new release date holds and we’ll finally be able to see what director Josh Boone and his cast and crew have created!
