Mads Mikkelsen Replaces Johnny Depp in ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’

by Trey Hilburn III

Mads Mikklesen (Hannibal, Rogue One) is taking the place of Johnny Depp in Fantastic Beasts 3. It seems that he does so somewhat reluctantly though. Not because of the film or the role itself, which he sounds excited about, but for reasons that Depp had to leave the film.

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp’s divorce has been a messy one. The two have been in embroiled in court battles and added to that there were allegations from both parties that there was physical abuse involved. Depp at one time provided a recording to prove that he was indeed being manipulated and abused. However, the messiness of their personal business has affected both of their careers. In the latest bit, Depp stepped down from his Fantastic Beasts role, stating that it was based on Warner Bros. pushing him in that direction.

Mikklesen has now stepped into the role and has the challenge of making the role his own after Depp did a good job at bringing the role to life.

“Job wise, it’s obviously super interesting and nice, it’s also a shocker that it came after what happened, which is just super sad. I wish both of them the best. These are sad circumstances. I hope both of them will be back in the saddle again really soon.” Mikkelsen told Entertainment Weekly.
