The prequel to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road now has a partial cast. A shiny and chrome cast. The lead of the title character Furiosa will be played by none other than The VVitch’s Anya Taylor-Joy .
Director George Miller has tapped Joy to fill the role. This means that Joy will fill in as the the younger version of the very badass Furiosa.
In addition Miller has also tapped Chris Hemsworth and Yaha Abdul-Mateen II. No word on who they will play at the moment.
Miller has been hard at work finding the right person to play a younger Furiosa. Charlize Theron played the role in Fury Road but is a little too far out of her 20’s to take on the new role. Miller wants to reveal the characters origins that play out in her 20s.
George Miller will direct, co-write and produce along side producing partner, Douglas Mitchell.
It’s a huge casting decision. Theron was iconic. In fact she was so iconic that it lead to the exploration of a prequel. So, it’s bittersweet that she can’t be play the role herself. Who knows though. Maybe, Miller is keeping secrets. In the perfect world we have a Godfather II set up that shows two timelines. In this case, younger Furiosa as well as present day.
