As we reported yesterday, Tim Burton gave us a big holiday treat this week by announcing that Beetlejuice 2 is finally getting set to happen, confirming that the script is being written and the long-awaited sequel is closer to reality than ever before. But who will be returning, from the original cast?
It’s been confirmed that Michael Keaton is already on board to reprise the iconic role of Beetlejuice, and today Burton has revealed to MTV that Winona Ryder will also be returning, bringing Lydia Deetz back to life nearly three decades after the original classic hit theaters.
“Oh yeah, yeah yeah yeah,” he said, when asked if Ryder was coming along for the ride. “Oh yeah, oh yeah. Yeah yeah, oh yeah.”
In Beetlejuice, Lydia was of course the unusual daughter of Charles Deetz and step-daughter of Delia Deetz, who the title character planned on marrying so that he could return to the world of the living.
In the same interview with MTV, Burton also noted that he will definitely be directing Beetlejuice 2, though that should come as no surprise to anyone.
From what we’ve heard in the past, Beetlejuice 2 looks to be a true sequel to the first one, which should be a real treat for longtime fans of the characters – and the whacky world they inhabit.
