Misha Green’s Lovecraft Country was truly a series that blew audiences mind with its true weirdness and loveliness. Sadly, the show might have been a little too awesome and weird for its own good. The series will not be back for a second season.
“We will not be moving forward with a second season of Lovecraft Country, We are grateful for the dedication and artistry of the gifted cast and crew, and to Misha Green, who crafted this groundbreaking series. And to the fans, thank you for joining us on this journey.” HBO told Deadline in a statement.
The first season was based on Matt Ruff’s incredible book. That story was told entirely in Lovecraft Country’s first season. That left the series with no roadmap to go forward. The JJ Abrams and Jordan Peele produced series was incredibly popular, and only grew in popularity over time. Usually, that would be enough to get the show greenlit.
The hope was that the team of writers would be able to create a second season without a book. Basically, they would have just continued to expand those characters with a team of writers and a showrunner. But, it wasn’t something that HBO ended up pressing forward with.
After looking at the situation carefully and considering all possibilities, HBO decided not to go forward with a second Lovecraft Country season.
