An annual Halloween tradition from 2004 through 2010, the Saw franchise officially came to an end with the so-called Final Chapter, the seventh installment in the series that ended with the return of Dr. Lawrence Gordon – who had last been seen hacking off his foot, in the original film.  But was that truly the end, as was promised?  Is it ever, when we’re dealing with money-making horror franchises?

If the Friday the 13th franchise taught us anything, it’s that The Final Chapter never truly is, and Bloody Disgusting broke the exclusive news earlier today that Lionsgate is indeed actively developing an eighth installment of the hit series.  Will Dr. Gordon take over Jigsaw’s work?  And when will the gruesome traps once again spew blood and viscera all over our Halloween season?  For now, the answers to these questions remain a mystery.

Stay tuned, as we’ll be sure to report more news as we learn it.

In the meantime, let us know what you’d like to see in Saw 8 – if, in fact, you’d even like to see the series continue – by dropping a comment below!

  1. The Saw series gets a lot of flack for creating the whole “torture porn” trend, but I don’t think it deserves the hate. It’s an easy target, but the movies are enjoyable and creative. I give kudos the producers for continuing one in-depth storyline and churning out a new movie every year without ever making any that are unwatchable. I’d be happy to watch a new installment, especially now that Paranormal Activity has has lost its luster.

  2. Completely agree, Alex. Though not all the installments were great, I was always entertained and always impressed with how they kept coming up with clever ways to keep the story going – even after Jigsaw and Amanda were killed!
