Lin Shaye, Godmother of Horror and star of the Insidious franchise, has signed on to appear in Sony’s brand new take on The Grudge according to Variety.

Shaye will join the previously announced John Cho and Andrea Riseborough in what is being called a re-imagining of the classic film. Nicholas Pesce will not only be directing, but has also written the script.

Fans will recall that the first installment of The Grudge was released in 2004 and starred Sarah Michelle Gellar of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” fame as an American nurse working in Tokyo where she finds herself on the receiving end of a seriously evil curse. It was based on the Japanese film, Ju-on, which had been a huge hit overseas just two years before, and was one of many American adaptations of J-Horror hits at the time.

While there is no word yet on who Shaye and her co-stars will be playing, it certainly looks to be a winning combination. Cho is hot off of his run in the second season of television’s “The Exorcist” while Riseborough can currently be seen in the series “Waco” which chronicles the final days of David Koresh and his followers in the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas.

Call it a reboot; call it a re-imagining. Either way, we here at iHorror are excited and we’ll be keeping close tabs on the project to keep you up to date on all the latest news.
