Julia Stiles (Out of the Dark) has joined the eOne and Dark Castle prequel to 2009’s Orphan. The new film, titled Orphan: First Kill, is produced by eOne and Dark Castle. The project was previously titled Esther.
Stiles joins previously announced Isabelle Fuhrman who is returning to the role she originated in the previous film. The project is currently filming in Winnipeg. The script is written by David Coggeshall (Scream: The TV Series) and directed by William Brent Bell (The Boy).
Deadline lists the synopsis of the new film as follows:
Leena Klammer orchestrates a brilliant escape from an Estonian psychiatric facility and travels to America by impersonating the missing daughter of a wealthy family. But Leena’s new life as “Esther” comes with an unexpected wrinkle and pits her against a mother who will protect her family at any cost.
Fuhrman famously took on the role of Esther, a murderous young woman pretending to be a little girl, eleven years ago when she was only 12 years old. She will return to the film with the use of forced perspective and make-up rather than using the de-aging technology we’ve seen in recent years.
There is no word yet on what role Stiles will take on, but she seems a good fit for the role of the mother of the new family. The actress rose to fame with roles in 10 Things I Hate About You and Save the Last Dance. She also previously appeared in the 2006 remake of The Omen.
There is no official release date for Orphan: First Kill, but iHorror will keep you posted on those details as they become available.
