Today is a sad day indeed everyone, Jonathan Demme has passed away at the age of 73. While he was a well known director one of his best known works was Silence of the Lambs. His publicist went on to explain that Jonathan Demme has passed away on Wednesday, April 26 due to his fight with cancer.
Jonathan Demme’s work on Silence of the Lambs is what helped to get his name out to the general public and embed his name as a truly great director. Silence of the Lambs follows a young FBI analyst working desperately with serial killer and cannibal Hannibal Lecter to find another serial killer terrorizing women across the country.
As the plot progresses it is made evident that Hannibal has his own agenda on top of helping out a young budding FBI agent, and was met with critical acclaim as a fantastic thriller. It would also go onto winning an Academy Award for all five categories ( picture, actor, actress, director, as well as adapted screenplay).
Jonathan Demme’s best known work may have been a horror thriller but he was so much more than a horror director. He would go on to direct drama, TV Series episodes, made for TV movies, and even documentaries. Spreading his unique vision of film across many genres for all to enjoy.
There are no words powerful enough to describe just how deeply every fan of Jonathan Demme and his work will miss him. On this day today, Hollywood as well as the rest of the world mourns for a man who had a unique vision, and wanted only to share it with the rest of the world through his art.
