One of the most pleasant surprises of 2018 was definitely A Quiet Place, a sci-fi/horror film directed, starring and co-written by John Krasinski, who will probably always be best known for playing Jim on NBC’s The Office.
Made on a modest – for Hollywood at least – budget, A Quiet Place took the box office by storm, earning over $300 million worldwide, in addition to garnering widespread acclaim from both mainstream critics and fans.
While Krasinski’s character memorably sacrificed himself to protect his family from A Quiet Place’s sound-attracted alien invaders, he did return to write the upcoming sequel. Now, Deadline reports he’ll direct it as well.
Ever since A Quiet Place 2 was greenlit, Krasinski has been unwilling to commit to directing the sequel, but he’s now officially onboard. Also returning is his real-life wife Emily Blunt as badass mom Evelyn Abbott.
Krasinski has said that his idea for A Quiet Place 2 focused primarily on new characters, so it’s unclear how much Blunt’s Evelyn and family will figure into the plot. It’s also unclear if Krasinki will appear onscreen at all.
A Quiet Place 2 starts filming in July, and hits theaters on May 15th, 2020. Hopefully this sequel will be able to recapture the magic of the original, which managed to turn even the slightest noise into a jump moment.
