The Grudge curse is spreading. Variety reports John Cho has officially become the newest addition to the reboot’s growing cast. Cho joins Andrea Riseborough and Damian Bichir in the upcoming film. The Grudge is set to be written and directed by Nicolas Pesce, who brought us 2016’s haunting horror/drama The Eyes of My Mother.
Ghost House and Good Universe are joining forces to produce the film. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions set the reboot in motion after recently acquiring worldwide rights for The Grudge.
You may be most familiar with Cho’s work as Sulu in the big screen Star Trek reboots, and as Harold in the buddy comedy Harold & Kumar films. However, what you may not know is Cho has already cut his teeth in the horror genre with roles as former child psychologist Andrew Kim in Fox’s The Exorcist series, and as the cursed police officer Andy Brooks in Fox’s Sleepy Hollow.
There is no word yet on what Cho’s character in The Grudge will be, but his previous horror roles show he has the chops to play one creepy villain if given the opportunity. The film is scheduled to begin shooting in May this year.
