Cult filmmaker Joe Dante will be getting back behind the camera for a horror-comedy titled Burying the Ex. Dante knows very well how to balance horror and comedy, having helmed Gremlins and Gremlins 2. He’s also responsible for The Howling, Piranha, The ‘Burbs and most recently The Hole.
Anton Yelchin (Fright Night), Ashley Greene (Twilight), Alexandra Daddario (Texas Chainsaw 3D) and Oliver Cooper (Project X) star in the picture, according to The Wrap. The script is penned by Alan Trezza, based on his 2008 short film of the same name. The movie began production today in Los Angeles.
Burying the Ex follows Max (Yelchin) and Evelyn (Greene) as their relationship takes a nose dive once they move in together. Max discovers how controlling and manipulative Evelyn is but he’s too scared to break up with her. When fate steps in and Evelyn dies in a freak accident, newly-single Max prepares to move on with Olivia (Daddario). His romantic life becomes complicated when Evelyn rises from the grave and sets out to get her boyfriend back, even if that means turning him into one of the undead.
Voltage Pictures is financing the effort. The company is producing alongside ArtImage Entertainment, Scooty Woop Entertainment and Act 4 Entertainment. Cassian Elwes (Lawless) is serving as executive producer with Voltage’s Zev Foreman and Dominic Rustam.
