Jaws, Steven Spielberg’s classic creature feature that terrified audiences and made millions afraid to go into the ocean, is marking its 45th anniversary with a special limited edition 4K UHD/Blu Ray this June.
Packed with over three hours of bonus features, the limited release will also come with a lenticular cover and a 44-page booklet with rare photos, storyboards and more from the archive plus a digital download code for viewing on the go.
The film takes place on Amity Island, where a new sheriff (Roy Scheider) finds himself at odds with the local mayor (Murray Hamilton) after a giant, deadly great white shark begins attacking tourists. The sheriff insists the beaches should be closed, but the mayor wants them open to support local businesses. Soon, the sheriff, a marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss), and a grizzled seafarer (Robert Shaw), head out into the sea to try to destroy the beast before it can cause more harm.
Jaws was nominated for four Oscars, taking home awards for Sound, Editing, and Film Score, an enormous feat for a genre film, and it has gone on to become a standard-bearer for shark films. Many have tried to duplicate it, but few have ever come close.
