Jamie Lee Curtis got her start as a horror movie scream queen, so it only makes sense that she returns to the genre this coming fall in Fox’s slasher-inspired TV series Scream Queens. The show premieres on September 22nd, and it looks to be a real treat for us horror fans.
As Curtis just revealed over on Instagram, there will be a scene in the show that faithfully recreates the iconic shower scene from Alfred Hitchcock’s horror classic Psycho, wherein Marion Crane was stabbed to death by Norman Bates (aka Mother). Crane was of course played by Janet Leigh – JLC’s real-life mom.
“Just recreated, with help from the amazing crew, a shot by shot of my mother’s famous shower scene from Hitchcock’s PSYCHO for Scream Queens,” Curtis wrote, including the above photo in the Instagram post. “Ryan Murphy and co. wrote it into a special episode and it felt right! Honoring the Royal legend that is/was/will always be, Janet Leigh. Thought all fans of the genre would love it!”
Described as Friday the 13th meets Heathers, the 15-episode comedy-horror anthology series revolves around a college campus rocked by a series of murders, and the cast is loaded with star-power including Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Nick Jonas and Ariana Grande.
“It opens in a flashback to 1995 at the sorority where something horrible happens,” Murphy recently said of the show, which is inspired by 80s slasher films. “It’s a mystery that goes unsolved. Flash forward 20 years to today, and it looks like someone is out for revenge. Something horrible happened to a pledge and on the anniversary of that crime, someone is out for vengeance.”
