Created by Todd McFarlane in 1992, Spawn is easily one of the most horror-centered superheroes ever created. I mean, the guy literally comes from Hell, thanks to a Faustian bargain entered into by former black ops officer Al Simmons.
Since becoming a favorite in the world of comics, Spawn has been adapted for the screen a couple times. They Live’s Keith David voiced Spawn in a late-90s HBO animated series, while Michael Jai White played the character in 1997’s feature film adaptation.
Soon, Spawn will return to theaters in a new film both written and directed by creator McFarlane. Now, according to a report by That Hashtag Show, we may know just who will be getting under the make-up to portray Spawn this time out.
While this remains simply a rumor for now, the report says that Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx has been offered the Spawn role. However, he hasn’t accepted yet, and whether or not he does could conceivably play a part in how long the film takes to enter production.
There currently isn’t a planned release date for the new Spawn movie, although McFarlane apparently wants it to be ready for a 2019 release. If that’s the case, they need to get casting done soon, so they can start filming already.
