NBCUniversal is bringing a limited-series adaptation of Wondery’s Dr. Death podcast to their Peacock streaming network and they’re assembling one heck of a cast to do it.
Based on the incredible and terrifying true story, Jame Dornan (Anthropoid) will star as Dr. Christopher Duntsch, a young surgeon in the Dallas medical community with a growing reputation as a neurosurgeon. Then, inexplicably, everything changed. Patients began dying at a much higher rate than should be expected. Those that didn’t die were often maimed beyond repair.
As the death toll rose, fellow surgeons Dr. Robert Henderson and Dr. Randall Kirby began to investigate their colleague. What they discovered, left an entire community in shock.
Alec Baldwin (30 Rock) and Christian Slater (Interview with the Vampire) will star as Henderson and Kirby, respectively.
According to Deadline, Grace Gummer (Mr. Robot) will also star in the film as Nurse Kim Morgan who finds herself drawn into Duntsch’s machinations, and Molly Griggs will portray Duntsch’s girlfriend, Wendy Young, who did her very best to positively influence Duntsch in the midst of his transformation to Dr. Death.
The Dr. Death podcast was called the “scariest podcast of the year” by GQ Magazine back in 2018 and NBCUniversal’s adaptation will no doubt expand the audience for this unbelievable story.
There is no set release date yet for the new series, but iHorror will keep you posted on details as they become available.
