James Wan (Saw, Insidious, The Conjuring) and Warner Brothers have finally confirmed both the title and release date for the director’s new horror thriller.
Malignant will hit theaters next year on August 14 according to Deadline.
Details about the project have been closely guarded from its initial announcement when there was first no title, then a tentative working title of Silvercup, and finally the official announcement of Malignant.
There are still no plot details available on the project though it supposedly carries some giallo-esque elements.
Wan wrote the script based on a story he co-authored with Ingrid Bisu (The Nun) who will also appear in the film.
Annabelle Wallis (Annabelle), Maddie Hasson (Twisted), Jake Abel (Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters), Jacqueline McKenzie (Deep Blue Sea), George Young (Containment), Paul Mabon (Clemency), Rachel Winfree (Bovine Sonata), and Michole Briana White (Spell) will also star in the film.
Malignant is being produced under Wan’s Atomic Monster banner with New Line set to distribute the film.
This is a return to the genre for James Wan whose has spent some time branching out with films like Aquaman and working on the Fast & the Furious franchise with Furious 7. It will definitely be good to see him back in the horror/thriller space again.
The film is currently in production in Los Angeles, and we can’t wait to see the finished product!
Mark your calendars for August 14, 2020, and get ready for Malignant.
