James Gunn and The H Collective have been recruiting a cast for an untitled horror film directed by David Yarovesky (The Hive). Deadline reports Jackson Dunn (Shameless), David Denman (The Office, 13 Hours), Meredith Hagner (Search Party, The Oath), and Matt Jones (The Layover, Breaking Bad) have been tapped for roles in the upcoming film. Elizabeth Banks, who previously worked with Gunn in his horror/comedy Slither, is reported to be playing the starring role.
James Gunn and his company Troll Court Entertainment will be producing with The H Collective. The H Collective is a US based film finance, production, marketing, and distribution company. They are reportedly financing the entire project. Yarovesky has worked with Gunn on multiple short films, including the goofy 70’s throwback viral video Guardians’ Inferno featuring David Hasselhoff. The script is being penned by Brian and Mark Gunn, who have also collaborated with Yarovesky and James Gunn on previous projects.
Yarovesky’s The Hive (2015) unfortunately didn’t perform well with audiences. Perhaps having Gunn on board with a different writing team will make the difference. Both filmmakers have a history of incorporating dark humor, and over-the-top gore into their horror films. Maybe Yarovesky and Gunn could pull off another cult-horror hit like Slither with their unique taste of horror/comedy.
There are no further details on the film’s plot or a release date as of yet. The project reportedly started principal photography last week, so it’s possible we may see further details later this year.
