I don’t think there is a single person I grew up with that wasn’t completely horrified yet fascinated by Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark series of books. From the covers to the nightmarish illustrations to the morbid and often humorous stories, the books were a staple of many a childhood.
Now, nearly 30 years after the release of the first in 1981, we are finally getting a film adaptation inspired by Schwartz’s masterwork of grotesque horror, produced by Guillermo Del Toro. But you knew that, because you love the books and you’ve been paying attention.
For those who have been waiting (im)patiently for information about the movie, we finally have something you can see with your own eyes. It’s nothing spectacular, but it’s enough to really excite you and, at least for me, give me visual confirmation that yes, finally, this is really happening. Take a look:

Fandango shared this ominous image of a dark mansion at night – and that’s it. It’s enough to get our collective imaginations running wild and our appetite for nostalgic fear running on high.
We’ll have to wait until August 19th, 2019 to see the actual film but until then, these little snippets will do just fine.
