‘IT’ Gets Blu-Ray Release Date, No Director’s Cut Included

Published

on

When it comes to the biggest horror hit of 2017, there is no contest as to the winner: IT. Director Andy Muschietti’s adaptation of Stephen King’s classic novel was a hit with both critics and audiences, hauling in nearly $700 million worldwide.

The sequel – tentatively titled IT: Chapter 2 – is set to arrive in September 2019, almost two years to the day of the first film’s premiere. With the story of the child Losers’ Club’s battle with Pennywise out of the way, the sequel will reunite the friends as adults, with Oscar-nominee Jessica Chastain already expressing an interest in playing Bev.

For those who can’t wait to see IT again, Warner Bros. has assigned the film a January 9th, 2018 release date for DVD, Blu-Ray, and 4K formats. If you don’t care about physical media, the digital download of IT will become available for purchase on December 19th, a few weeks before the disc streets.

Unfortunately, those expecting a feature-packed special edition release of such a big hit are likely to be let down by the small list of extras set to appear on WB’s Blu-Ray. To be fair, it’s not yet known how long each extra runs, so the amount of content could still be substantial overall.

IT - Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise

Sadly, the biggest disappointment has to be the absence of the director’s cut of IT that Muschietti promised to fans shortly after his film became a phenomenon. Of course, that doesn’t mean we’ll never get to see that cut. If anything, the studio may well be planning a double dip release to coincide with the sequel’s debut in theaters.

The full list of features is below, followed by two cover designs. The first design is the normal Blu-Ray cover, and the second is the front art of Best Buy’s exclusive steelbook edition.

IT - Pennywise Projector Scare

  • Pennywise Lives! – Discover how Bill Skarsgård prepared to portray the primordial creature known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown
  • The Losers’ Club – Get up close and personal with the teenage stars of “IT” as they bond together during the production,
  • Author of Fear – Stephen King reveals the roots of his best-selling novel, the nature of childhood fear and how he created his most famous monster, Pennywise
  • Deleted Scenes – Eleven deleted or extended scenes from the film

Watch ‘The Burning’ At The Location Where It Was Filmed

Published

on

Fangoria is reporting that fans of the 1981 slasher The Burning will be able to have a screening of the film at the location where it was filmed. The movie is set at Camp Blackfoot which is actually the Stonehaven Nature Preserve in Ransomville, New York.

This ticketed event will take place on August 3. Guests will be able to take a tour of the grounds as well as enjoy some campfire snacks along with the screening of The Burning.

The Burning

The film came out in the early ’80s when teen slashers were being churned out in magnum force. Thanks to Sean S. Cunningham’s Friday the 13th, filmmakers wanted to get in on the low-budget, high-profit movie market and a casket load of these types of films were produced, some better than others.

The Burning is one of the good ones, mostly because of the special effects from Tom Savini who had just come off of his groundbreaking work on Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th. He declined to do the sequel because of its illogical premise and instead signed on to do this movie. Also, a young Jason Alexander who would later go on to play George in Seinfeld is a featured player.

Because of its practical gore, The Burning had to be heavily edited before it received an R-rating. The MPAA was under the thumb of protest groups and political bigwigs to censor violent films at the time because slashers were just so graphic and detailed in their gore.

Tickets are $50, and if you want a special t-shirt, that will cost you another $25, You can get all the information by visiting the On Set Cinema webpage.
