It’s no secret that Stephen King has written many iconic stories, some of which could be considered candidates for the best horror novel of all time. After all, he’s a legend for a reason. One book always sure to make such lists is 1986’s IT.
King’s epic tale of a group of childhood friends and their battle against a shape-shifting monster is beloved, and IT’s Pennywise the Clown form is probably responsible for more cases of coulrophobia than anyone outside of maybe John Wayne Gacy.
In 2017, director Andy Muschietti gifted the world an R-rated theatrical adaptation of IT, which earned great reviews and made mountains of cash. This fall, Muschietti finishes the story with IT: Chapter Two. Without further ado, here’s the first trailer.
While IT was of course first adapted into a 1990 TV miniseries starring Tim Curry as Pennywise, for many fans, the 2017 film has already surpassed that version. The movie is much truer to the spirit of King’s book, even if some events are changed.
Now, it’s up to Muschietti, screenwriter Gary Dauberman, and an assembled cast of adult Losers – including James McAvoy, Bill Hader, and Jessica Chastain – to deliver a sequel worthy of following the 2017 movie. IT: Chapter Two releases September 6th.
