24. The House of the Devil

An ’80s-inspired thriller that mixes bits from the slasher and haunted house subgenres with a heavy dose of Satanic Panic. Ti West pays homage to the classics by using filming techniques similar to the horror films of the ’70s and ’80s, and he totally nails it. The production design perfectly matches the ’80s aesthetic (infused with an autumn ambiance), so when you’re watching it, you feel like you somehow found a hi-def VHS tape of some back-of-the-shelf hidden gem. As a bonus, it’s creepy as hell, with a slow burn that builds to an intense payoff. -Kelly McNeely
