Though remakes are the norm here in the horror genre, I admit to being somewhat surprised when exploitation classic I Spit On Your Grave was remade back in 2010. It came as even more of a surprise when the remake spawned a sequel three years later, and now the rape-revenge franchise becomes a trilogy.
Via a press release, Anchor Bay Entertainment announced today that R.D. Braunstein’s I Spit On Your Grave 3: Vengeance is Mine is headed our way just in time for Halloween, slicing its way into limited theaters on October 9th. A DVD, Blu-ray, and VOD release will follow on October 20th.
What’s noteworthy about the franchise’s second sequel is that 2010 remake star Sarah Butler will be reprising the role of Jennifer Hills. The character did not appear in the sequel, which focused on an entirely different female who found herself in much the same nightmare.
In the film, Jennifer Hills is still tormented by the brutal sexual assault she endured years prior. She’s changed identities and cities, reluctantly joining a support group where she begins to piece together a new life. But when her new friend’s murderer goes free and the tales of serial rapists haunt her, Jennifer will hunt down the men responsible and do what the system won’t – make them pay for their crimes in the most horrific ways imaginable. Only this time, no jury may be able to save her
