As we all no doubt remember, following the hit success of the Scream movies in the late 1990s came an onslaught of new teen-centered slashers. None of these imitators really managed to knock it out of the park, but some did better than others.
One of my favorites was 1997’s I Know What You Did Last Summer, also of course written by Scream scribe Kevin Williamson. While nothing revolutionary, I Know was a fairly fun little slasher, and featured a likeable cast of young Hollywood heartthrobs.
Of course, the sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer featured Jack Black as a stoned Rastafarian, and is probably better left forgotten. I bet most of you aren’t even aware they made a third one in 2006, likely due to it going direct to video.
Now, Deadline reports that an I Know What You Did Last Summer TV series is on its way to Amazon Prime, with the streaming service hiring A-list director James Wan to helm the pilot. Wan is best known to horror fans for creating Saw and The Conjuring.
Unfortunately, details beyond that are nil, outside of John Wick 3 co-writer Shay Hatten penning the pilot script. We’ve seen in recent years that a slasher tale can work on TV if told well, so there’s no reason to believe this might not end up being good.
