It’s been roughly a year since its debut at E3 2017, but Hunt: Showdown has finally been released on Steam. Pulling influences from titles such as the Left 4 Dead series, and Evolve—and possibly influenced by various battle royale games—developer Crytek (Far Cry and Crysis) has made Hunt: Showdown.
“Hunt: Showdown is a competitive multiplayer bounty hunting game that packs the thrill of survival games into a match-based format. During each match up to ten players, hunting solo or in teams of two, track and kill gruesome monsters for a bounty – when they aren’t tracking and killing each other in order to steal it. Death is permanent and every match is a gamble with your Hunter’s life and gear – but the greater the risk, the greater the reward.”
-Crytek, Hunt: Showdown Steam release description
Set in the mysterious, massive, mucky bayous of an older Louisiana, players control bounty hunters armed with an extensive arsenal of alternative history weapons—fairly certain we did not have belt fed revolvers at any point—and can expect to face off with hordes of ghouls, ravenous dogs, and other creatures such as: a lumbering, demonic butcher, a hellish spider the size of a boulder, or whatever else the developers have decided to hide within the maps of the early access game.
Horror and “battle royale” enthusiasts alike can pick this game up on Steam for $29.99.
