A persistent elderly man buys an old jigsaw puzzle from a vintage shop even though its proprietor implores him not to in this week’s horror short called The Jigsaw.
Basil and Rashad Al-Safar direct this moody little wind-up pitch which plays out much like the blank container holding the puzzle: you’re not sure what you’re getting until the last piece is placed.
Beautiful locations in Portugal and England make for the perfect moody backdrop and an ominous performance by Daragh O’Malley as the shop owner only fuels the curiosity of what happens once the puzzle is complete.
Pedro Monteiro as the old man has only a few lines of dialogue, the rest he expresses masterfully through facial expressions.
The film won many awards when it played in 2014 and it’s easy to see why when you watch it below.
