Evil clowns are back in horror and vogue now, so it should come as no surprise that some other genre staples are making a comeback. In this case, one of the genre’s favorite sub-genres, the horror anthology! It was just announced today through Entertainment Weekly that Mickey Rourke of ANGEL HEART, SIN CITY, and THE EXPENDABLES will be starring in one such anthology entitled NIGHTMARE CINEMA.

As for the plot and framing story, according to Entertainment Weekly:

In the movie, a series of down-on-their-luck individuals enter the decrepit Rialto Theater, only to have their deepest and darkest fears brought to life on the silver screen by the mysterious and ghostly Projectionist. By the time our patrons realize the truth, escape is no longer an option. For once the ticket is torn, their fate is sealed at Nightmare Cinema.

It’s also been reported that there’s hope of turning NIGHTMARE CINEMA into an anthology television series. which only makes sense with Mick Garris’ background in prior anthology shows like MASTERS OF HORRROR and FEAR ITSELF.
