Whereas most holidays have been mined for all their worth in the horror genre, giving us plenty of films to watch when the time is right, New Year’s has been surprisingly absent from the holiday horror fun, over the years. In fact, there’s only one New Year’s horror film I can think of, and it’s soon headed to Blu-ray.
Released in 1980, New Year’s Evil was only recently released on DVD, making it somewhat of an obscure slasher film. Written and directed by Emmett Alston, the film centers on a New Year’s Eve celebration, wherein a punk rock & new wave show host gets a phone call saying that when New Year’s strikes in each time zone, someone will be murdered – and she will be the last victim.
It is fan-favorite distribution company Scream Factory who will be breathing new life into the forgotten film, releasing New Year’s Evil on Blu-ray on February 24th of next year. If you place your order directly through their site, however, it’ll ship out to you two weeks early.
